In the summer of 2010, after his sophomore year, Regan Grishaber attended a 2 week residential Debate Camp at Victory Briefs Institute at UCLA.  It was a life changing experience and he came home determined to start a Lincoln-Douglas Debate Team at ANHS. With the support of many people, including the connections he had made at camp, his school Principal, Activities Director, and CapoUSD, as well as his own family, Regan began the enormous process of starting a team. This involved working with school officials to establish an official team, finding a volunteer coach to chaperone the team at competitions, fundraising, hiring experienced college debaters to coach long distance using Skype, recruiting other students to join the team, and endless hours of research, practice, and hard work. By the time school started in September 2010 the ANHS Debate Team had officially joined the National Forensics League and the Orange County Speech League and was traveling to Debate Tournaments both locally and state wide to compete against some of the best Debate Teams in the Nation. The first year was incredibly successful, bringing home several trophies including: 3rd place Novice at OCSL Tournament, Varsity Octofinalist at CSUF High School Invitational, Varsity Double Octofinalist at California Invitational, and Varsity Octofinalist at Harker Nichols Invitational. During the winter break, Regan spent one week in Texas attending the Pinnacle residential Debate Camp and the following summer he returned to UCLA for a 3 week residential Debate Camp at Victory Briefs Institute.  He knew that in order for the ANHS Debate Team to grow and thrive it was important to continue recruiting other members to share his passion for debate with and to raise funds to help with the team expenses so he created the first ever Summer Debate Camp/Workshop at ANHS for students from across the CUSD. For 4 days, Team Captain, Regan Grishaber, coached 22 students in the method of LD Debate. Just beginning its second year, the ANHS Debate Team's 2011/2012 season promises to be even better. Already in the first 3 weeks of school, we have travelled to New York, Texas, & San Jose to compete against some of the top ranked high school debaters in the nation.  On September 11th, Regan won a Semi Finalist trophy at the Vassar Round Robin and on September 25th he walked away with the 1st Place trophy as the Harker Nichols Invitational Champion!
